Dunvant RFC’s U13s Triumph in Rain-Drenched Ospreys Cup Showdown!

Underhill Park, Mumbles - In a fierce battle on a rain-soaked pitch, Dunvant RFC’s Under 13s conquered local rivals, Mumbles, in the first round of the Ospreys Cup, keeping their hopes alive of retaining the cup this year.

Despite the heavens opening just before kick-off, turning the pitch into a swimming pool, the Dunvant boys showed unwavering determination and skill. The game was eventually abandoned 12 minutes before time due to waterlogged conditions, but not before they secured a resounding victory with a final score of 36-17.

At half-time, Dunvant led 26-12, setting the tone for an exceptional performance. The boys demonstrated incredible teamwork, passing the ball seamlessly despite the challenging conditions. Sam and Harrison showcased their kicking skills, pinning Mumbles back in their own half and forcing them to run from deep.

Dunvant’s scrum was strong, consistently pushing Mumbles back and gaining crucial territory. Mumbles lost a prop just after half time so we were forced to have passive scrums.

The lineout deliveries were pinpoint, providing an abundance of quality ball for the backs to exploit.

Mumbles, on the other hand, displayed their strength with a formidable driving maul, scoring two well-executed tries that kept them in the game.

Isak gave Mumbles a hard time defending midfield and made a couple of breaks. Koby took his brace of tries well and Ben ‘el torro’ Whettleton carried well upfront.

Man of the match honours ultimately went to the talented Sam Phillips, whose flawless kicking and expert midfield passing were instrumental in Dunvant’s success.

Looking ahead, Dunvant will face Llanishen in their next fixture in the capital for another East-West Wales derby on away turf. The match will be a friendly, offering both teams an opportunity to fine-tune their skills.

The coaches commended the boys for their resilience in the face of adverse weather conditions. While celebrating the victory, they acknowledged the need to work on defending against the driving maul and enhancing their ruck play. Nonetheless, the season is shaping up nicely for Dunvant RFC’s U13s, and we can’t wait to see what’s next in this thrilling journey.

Final Score 17-36
