Dunvant RFC's Under 13s returned to action with a bang at Broadacre, brushing off the cobwebs in style with a commanding 52-26 victory over Carmarthen Quins in a friendly that showcased the young side’s immense potential.
Despite the humid conditions, the boys from Dunvant didn’t miss a beat. The heavens opened during the warm-up, but by the time the whistle blew, the skies had cleared, and the home side was ready to put on a show. From the very first scrum, it was clear that Dunvant meant business, and by halftime, they had stormed into a 42-14 lead.
The story of the match was Dunvant's power up front. Their scrum was nothing short of dominant, not only holding firm but also winning several scrums against the head. The Quins, known for their decent backline, simply couldn't
get into their rhythm as the Dunvant pack continuously disrupted their ball, with outstanding counter-rucking that kept the visitors on the back foot.
Carmarthen Quins did manage to claw back some points in the second half, but the damage was already done. Dunvant’s forward dominance, combined with clinical finishing, ensured the home side never looked in danger of losing their grip on the match.
Remarkably, the coaches decided not to award a man of the match, as the entire team performed exceptionally well—a testament to the collective effort that saw them through this opening challenge.
Dunvant’s coaches were full of praise after the match. "The boys were impressive today. We thought we might be a bit rusty after the break, but they got the job done," said one coach. "We've got a very stern test in Pontypool next week, but this will do us well before heading into our first cup game against old rivals Ystalyferra in a few weeks' time."
Next up for Dunvant is an away trip to face Pontypool United in what promises to be another tough test.
